PTK (Phototherapeutic Keratectomy)

PTK (Phototherapeutic Keratectomy) is an effective excimer laser procedure used to treat corneal surface scars and irregularities. These opacities may develop after infections, trauma, foreign body injuries, or previous surgeries. The goal is to improve visual quality and smooth the corneal surface. Patients should avoid makeup, perfume, and creams before the procedure and attend with a companion.

What is PTK Laser Treatment?

During PTK, the epithelial layer is removed in a controlled manner using laser. Surface opacities and irregularities are then treated with excimer laser ablation. The procedure is short and generally painless. Advanced eye-tracking systems ensure safety.

Recovery After PTK

A protective contact lens is placed. Mild burning and tearing may occur for 3–5 days. After epithelial healing, the lens is removed. Prescribed eye drops must be used regularly. Vision may remain blurred for several weeks before stabilizing.

Autologous Serum and Follow-Up

Autologous serum eye drops prepared from the patient’s own blood may support healing. Regular follow-ups monitor corneal surface recovery and visual improvement.
